Nebraska Men's Tennis Bring Home Two Wins

Des Moines, Iowa -- The Nebraska men's tennis team was able to win both matches on Saturday, Feb. 17, defeating Denver and Northern Iowa in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Huskers' were able to defeat Denver 5-0, after splitting sets at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. The Husker then went on to defeat the Pioneers, 2-1 in doubles to give the Huskers a 5-0 win.

In singles, senior Adnan Hadzialic split with Boris Turkic at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 spot senior Lance Mills defeated Tomasz Wawrzyniak, 6-2, 6-2, while senior Jorge Abos-Sanchez split with Magnus Ramfelt. Senior Kai Rieke was able to defeat Jay Patel, 7-6, 6-0, and junior Fungai Tongoona defeated Trevor Young, 6-4, 6-4. Senior Ryan Haith rounded out play, defeating Lachlan Menzies, 6-3, 6-1at the No. 6 spot.

In doubles action, Tongoona and Hadzialic teamed up to beat Turkic and Wawrzyniak, 8-3 at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 spot, Ramfelt and Patel defeated NU's Abos-Sanchez and Mills, 9-8, while at the No. 3 spot, Haith and Rieke defeated Young and Ceilley, 8-5.

Later Saturday, the Huskers defeated Northern Iowa, 7-0. The Huskers got off to a good start winning all six singles spots.

Mills took over the No. 1 spot where he defeated Harry Walsh, 6-1, 6-3, while Abos-Sanchez defeated Zane Krog, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 2 spot. At the No. 3 spot, Hadzialic defeated Ville Sippala, 6-4, 5-3, while Rieke defeated Khambula Msiska, 6-0, 6-3. Haith moved up to the No. 5 spot to defeat Rick Ferreira, 4-6, 7-5, and freshman Patrick Kennedy defeated Rob Webbink, 7-6, 2-0.

In doubles action, Tongoona and Hadzialic defeated Walsh and Msiska at the No.1 spot, 8-2, while Abos-Sanchez and Mills defeated Krog and Ferreira at the No. 2 spot, 8-4. Haith and Rieke took the win over Sipalla and Houghton, 8-4.

The Huskers next match will be at home against Baylor University.
