Lincoln -- The Nebraska women's tennis team defeated Montana, Friday, 7-0 at Woods Tennis Center without freshman Rebecca Harvey (San Diego, Calif.) improving to 6-0. R. Harvey, who is undefeated and plays in the lower lineup, was out due to illness. The Huskers took the early lead as they have all year, by winning all three matches. The closest match was an 8-4 Husker win at the No. 1 spot.
The Huskers continued to blow by teams, not letting the Bobcats win a match. The closest any Bobcat got to a Husker was a 6-4 set at the No.1 spot.
In doubles action junior Katarina Balan (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) and freshman Rose Ketmayura (Austin, Texas) regained their No. 1 spot and defeated Jessica Redding and Sarah Blaine, 8-4. The biggest margin of victory came at the No. 2 spot, where freshman Leslie Harvey (San Diego, Calif.) and freshman Elissa Kinard (Charleston, S.C.) defeated Kylie Wagner and Michaela Zima, 8-1, while sophomore Stacey Tomkiewicz (Ojah, Calif.) and junior Amy Frisch (Crescent, Ky.) defeated Molly Sanders and Katie McMillan, 8-3 at the No. 3 spot.
In singles
action, L. Harvey continued to dominate opponents winning 6-0,
6-4 against Jessica Redding. Senior Ndali Ijomah (Seattle, Wash.)
took the No. 2 spot and defeated Blain, 6-2, 6-1, and at the No.
3 Balan defeated Sanders, 6-1, 6-0. Kinard won the No. 4 spot,
defeating Wagner, 6-3, 6-2, while at the No. 5 spot, Frisch continued
to play at a high level beating Ashild Fjeldheim, 6-1, 6-1. And
Ketmayura rounded out singles action defeating McMillan, 6-2,
6-1.
