Eight Huskers Earn Academic Honors

Lincoln, Neb. -- The Nebraska women's swimming and diving team placed eight members on the academic all-Big 12 announce Tuesday. Seven of the eight were to the first-team academic All-Big 12. Only Iowa State (11), Missouri (8) placed more on the first team than Nebraska.

The first team selections were senior Beth Karaica, sophomore's Lindsey Highstrom, Keri Hehn, Karin Larka, Elizabeth Rieke, Michele Schmerbauch and Susan Walker. Senior Shandra Johnson was named to the second team Academic All-Big 12.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests.

The Huskers finished the regular season with a 7-4 record and will compete in the Big 12 Championships Feb. 14-17 in Austin, Texas
