Lincoln -- The Nebraska women's tennis team got their fifth victory Sunday morning against Montana State at Woods Tennis Center.
Nebraska continued to have little problems with their opponents putting the Bobcats away 7-0. The Huskers' doubles teams started the dual off the same way they have in all their matches this season, beating Montana State, 3-0.
Leslie Harvey and Elissa Kinard took over the No. 1 spot in doubles winning 8-3. Head Coach Scott Jacobson said that they had been playing very well and deserved a chance to play No. 1 doubles.
In singles action, the Huskers continued to rack up wins defeating the Bobcats in all six singles spots.
In singles, freshman standout, Leslie Harvey (San Diego, Calif.) maintained her No. 1 spot and defeated Stacy Voelker, 6-2, 6-2, while at the No. 2 spot, senior Ndali Ijomah (Seattle, Wash.) defeated Ali Jensen 6-2, 6-2. Katarina Balan (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) had few problems at the No. 3 spot where she defeated Colleen Cohee, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 4 Elissa Kinard (Charleston, S.C.) defeated Susan Risteen, 6-1, 6-0, and captain Amy Frisch continued to play dominating tennis, beating Rachel Drummond, 6-1, 6-1. Rebecca Harvey over-powered Staci Rust, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 6 spot.
In doubles action, L. Harvey and Kinard teamed up at the No. 1 spot to defeat Risteen and Jensen, 8-3. Balan and Frisch teamed up for the first time this year to defeat Cohee and Drummond, 8-3, and R. Harvey and Stacey Tomkiewicz (Ojai, Calif.) rolled past Voelker and Rust, 8-0.
The Huskers are now 5-0. Their next dual will be Friday, Feb. 16 against Montana.
