Two Huskers make it to Quarterfinals of ITA Mid-American Championships

Tulsa, Okla. - Nebraska men's tennis players Jorge Abos Sanchez and Lance Mills both made it to the quarterfinal round of the main draw at the ITA Mid-American Championships on Saturday.

Abos Sanchez and Mills lost to No. 1 seed Jonas Pilbor and eventual champion Stefan Hirn, both of Indiana State, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, and 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, respectively.

Before his lost in the quarterfinals, Abos Sanchez, a senior from Zaragoza, Spain, defeated ninth-seeded Chris Bates of Oklahoma State, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. These two matches bring Abos Sanchez fall record to 9-4 to lead the Huskers.

Mills, a junior from Omaha, also beat Dalibor Mihajlovic, 6-3, 6-4, in the round of 16 to secure a spot for himself in the quarterfinals.

Four Huskers competed in the consolation round. Senior Adnan Hadzialic won three matches to advance to the quarterfinals. He defeated Jason Smit of Illinois State, Lovre Brajkovic of Indiana State and Oliver Floth of Creighton before losing to16th-seed Vedran Vidovic of Indiana State. No scores were recorded.

Senior Ryan Haith, junior Fungai Tongoona and freshman Patrick Kennedy were all defeated in the first round of the consolation bracket byIndiana State's Henry Choi, Tulsa's Micah Zomer and Wichita State's Mark Sewell, respectively.

Nebraska will conclude its fall schedule at the ITA Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla., this coming weekend.
