Harriers Capture Murray Keatinge Titles

Orono, Maine - On Saturday both the Nebraska men's and women's cross country teams captured titles at the Murray Keatinge Invitational hosted by the University of Maine.

The Husker women, who tallied 22 points, had five runners finish in the top five, led by sophomore Kathryn Handrup. Handrup captured the first title of her career, completing the 5,000-meter course in a personal-best time of 17:49.3. Senior Amie Jorgensen also turned in a personal-best performance, finishing third in a time of 17:51.7. Freshman Ann Gaffigan finished fourth (17:54.1), followed by sophomore Jenna Lucas (5th, 18:20.1). Senior Jaimie Kruger rounded out the scoring for Nebraska, finishing ninth in 18:40.0. Freshman Hillary Laird also competed, finishing 22nd in a time of 19:16.7.

On the men's side, Nebraska placed five runners in the top 10, including two in the top five. The Huskers totaled 31 points to capture their first meet title of the year. Senior Marcus Witter finished the 5-mile course in 23:57.2 to claim second, followed by sophomore Mike Kamm, who crossed the line in third-place in a time of 24:37.7. Senior Aaron Carrizales finished seventh in a time of 24:42.3, while teammates Jed Barta (24:44.5) and Ian Gray (24:46.7) finished ninth and 10th respectively. The Huskers' other runners included freshman Kyle Wyatt (16th, 24:54.7), sophomore James De Bruhl (20th, 25:03.0) and freshman Eric Rasmussen (34th, 25:41.9). Michigan's Mark Pilja, who finished in 23:43.7, won the men's race.

The Huskers will next be in action when they travel to Ames, Iowa on Oct. 14 to compete in the 26th Annual Iowa State Memorial Classic. The Husker men will compete in the "A" race, which is scheduled to kick off at 10:30 a.m., followed by the women's "A" race at 11:30 a.m.
