Cambridge, Mass. -- The Nebraska men's tennis team officially started its fall season in the first two rounds of the Harvard Invitational in Cambridge, Mass., last Friday.
Joining Nebraska at the three-day competition were Alabama, Rutgers, MIT, St. Johns, and Harvard.
Of the 11 singles matches, the Huskers were victorious in eight.
In the 1st round of Flight "A," Husker senior Adnan Hadzialic beat Anthony Barker of Harvard, 6-0, 6-0. Hadzialic then went on to defeat Alabama's Alfonso Perez in the 2nd round, 7-5, 6-4.
Nebraska's, 2nd-seeded junior Lance Mills battled Harvard's freshman Mark Riddell in a tie-breaking three set match, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, and senior Kai Rieke defeated Ryan Brown also of Harvard, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0, in the second round of the Flight "A" division.
In the 1st round of Flight "B" freshman Patrick Kennedy and junior Fungai Tongoona were both victors defeating Harvard's Bo Wiegand and Chris Chiou, 6-3, 6-1, and 7-6, 6-2 respectively.
In the second round, both Kennedy and Tongoona won. Kennedy beat MIT's Andrew Kolesnikov, 6-4, 6-1, and Tongoona won over St. John's J. McKinstry, 6-3, 6-2.
Senior Ryan Haith was victorious over Takashi Zetsu of Rutgers in the 2nd round of Flight "B," 7-6, 6-1.
The rest of Nebraska's freshmen lost in the 2nd round of Flight "B." Kyle True, Jose Rivea and Ryan Jay were all defeated by No. 3 seed Dalibor Snyder of Harvard, No. 4 seed Scott Tolep of Rutgers, and No. 2 seed Mike Rich of Harvard.
In doubles action, Huskers double team, Rivera/True were the only winners. They defeated Turner/Wiegand of Harvard, 8-5.
Senior Jorge Abos Sanchez did not compete because of a pulled stomach muscle.
