Former University of Nebraska gymnast Jim Koziol (Omaha, Neb.) has been selected as one of 174 recipients of an NCAA postgraduate scholarship. The $5,000 scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who maintain at least a 3.000 cumulative grade-point average (4.000 scale) and perform with distinction in varsity competition.
Koziol, who graduated from Nebraska last December with a degree in biological sciences, was a two-time All-American for the Huskers men's gymnastics team, leading NU to a third-place finish at the 1999 NCAA Championships. A finalist for the Nissen-Emery Award, given to the nation's top senior gymnast, Koziol earned All-America honors on the still rings in both 1998 and 1999. A GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American, Koziol was also Nebraska's Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 1999.
He is the fourth NU gymnast in school history to earn an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, joining Patrick Kirksey (1990), Mark Warburton (1990) and Jim Mikus (1985). Koziol will attend the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy.
