University of Nebraska women's tennis team extend its winning
streak to a school record 14 matches with a victory over Texas
Tech Friday at the Woods Tennis Center.
With the win Nebraska improved to 15-1 on the season with a 3-1
record in the Big 12. The Huskers are on pace to have the best
season in the program's history.
Assistant coach Lisa Hiscock-Hart says that with a 15-1 record
the teams have a lot of confidence. "Having a 15-1 record helps
a lot with our confidence. We now go into every match expecting
to win."
In singles action Junior Ndali Ijomah and Senior Gina Pelazini
both rebounded from losses against Cal-State Northridge. Ijomah
defeated Tech's Ayako Suzuki 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles while Pelazini
defeated Renee Pereira 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Senior Sandra
Noetzel captured her 97th career victory with a 6-0, 6-0 victory
over Amanda Earhart of Texas Tech in No. 1 Singles.
Nebraska only dropped on doubles match. Noetzel and Pelazini fell
to Earhart and Suzuki of Tech 8-4. Freshman Maria Fernandez and
Sophomore Katarina Balan improved their doubles record to 14-1
with a 8-1 victory over Sonnia Orellana and Pereira 8-1. Ijomah
and Stacey Tomkiewicz were also victorious winning their No. 3
doubles match 8-1.
Nebraska who is currently ranked No. 46, its best record in school
history, will be back in action Sunday, April 2 with a 10 a.m.
match against No. 66 Texas A&M at the Woods Tennis Center.
