Huskers Pound Arkansas, 10-4

Fayetteville, Ark. -- The Nebraska baseball team rallied from a 3-1 deficit to surge past Arkansas, 10-4, at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville, Ark., snapping the Razorbacks' six-game home winning streak, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

The win gave head coach Dave Van Horn his second straight victory over his alma mater. Van Horn, who is 2-6 against his former school, also directed the Huskers to a 13-2 win over Arkansas earlier this season.

"It was nice to see us continue to hit the ball well," Van Horn said. "We still have a ways to go offensively, but it will help our players gain confidence going into a big conference series. We need to follow up with another solid outing tomorrow. We also got a solid pitching performance from Trevor Bullock, who had several great innings."

The Huskers jumped out to an early lead after sophomore Adam Shabala hit his first career home run over the left field wall to give NU a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

But Arkansas responded with three hits and three runs and one Husker error to jump on top of senior pitcher Trevor Bullock in the first inning and take a 3-1 lead. But Bullock, a Lincoln Southeast graduate and transfer from Nebraska-Kearney, settled down to allow just one hit in the next seven innings.

The Huskers rallied to score once in the fourth and regained the lead in the fifth after getting three straight hits from Brandt Vlieger, Josh Hesse, and Jamal Strong.

Nebraska added four runs in the sixth inning, notching five hits off three Razorback pitchers, while Arkansas' defense let up committing two errors.

It marked the third straight game the Huskers had at least 14 hits and at least 10 runs.

Bullock earned his first Husker victory in his first NU start, scattering six hits through eight innings, striking out five and giving up just one walk. His only other slip was a solo home run to lead off the ninth inning.

The Huskers got hits from eight different players, including three hits from Shabala and designated hitter Matt Hopper. Shabala also drove in two runs.

Nebraska will wrap up the two-game series on Wednesday, sending sophomore Brian Rodaway to the mound. Nebraska is now 11-6 overall, while Arkansas falls to 13-8.
