After spending his first two seasons at Citrus College, Strong, one of the fastest outfielders in Nebraska history, played for the Huskers during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. As a junior, Strong hit .346, scored 66 runs and reached base safely in 48 of 53 games. He showcased his speed on the basepaths, stealing 34 bases, the most by a Husker since 1988. His play on the field earned him honorable mention All-Big 12 and All-Regional Team Outfielder honors.
In his senior season, Strong notched a .301 batting average while scoring 59 runs, which was second-best on the team. He led the team in stolen bases again, improving on last season's mark with 35 stolen bases.
Strong reached the Major Leagues on Sept. 2, 2003, and spent parts of two seasons with the Seattle Mariners. In 2003, he primarily saw action as a pinch-runner, appearing in 12 games and scoring two runs. He also went hitless in his only two at bats. After missing part of the 2004 campaign with a knee injury, Strong returned to the Majors in 2005, batting .250 with two RBIs and six runs scored for the Mariners. A sixth-round pick of the Mariners in the 2000 First-Year Player Draft, his last season in professional baseball was 2007 when he was with the New York Yankees organization.
