Allaire Leads Huskers to Third-Place Finish

Murray, Ky - Led by freshman Nicole Allaire, the Nebraska women's rifle team placed third at the Roger Withrow Invitational Rifle Match hosted by Murray State University over the weekend.

Allaire shot a 391 out of a possible 400 in the air rifle and a 1,170 out of 1,200 in the smallbore to place fourth in both events. Allaire, who hails from Kearny, N.J., has led the Huskers in six matches this year.

In the air rifle, Nebraska's Amanda Trujillo finished 11th with a 386, while Rachel Spiry fired a 383 to finish 17th. Sophomore Terim Richards finished 25th with a score of 379 and Victoria Ridge took 31st firing a 378. Matt Emmons from Alaska-Fairbanks won the event firing a 398. Nebraska's combined score in the air rifle of 1,534 put them in third behind UAF (1,571) and Murray State (1,537).

Led by Allaire's 1,170 in the smallbore, Nebraska's team score of 4,568 placed them fourth overall in the event. Trujillo finished 10th firing a 1,158, followed by Ridge with a 1,133 to take place 25th. Spiry rounded out the scoring for the Huskers shooting a 1,107 to finish 47th out of 80 competitors. UAF's Melissa Mulloy took the individual title firing a 1,188. UAF won the smallbore with a combined team score of 4,704. Murray State finished second in the event with a 4,603 followed by Kentucky with a 4,591.

Alaska-Fairbanks won the match with an aggregate score (air rifle and smallbore scores combined) of 6,275, followed by Murray State with 6,140 points. Nebraska's combined score of 6,102 placed them third overall.

Nebraska's next competition will come at the Collegiate Sectional Match on Feb. 12, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
