San Antonio, Texas --Top seed and defending Big 12 Conference Tournament champion Nebraska advanced to the championship match with a 7-1 win over fourth-seed Baylor Thursday evening at the Blossom Soccer Stadium in San Antonio.
Nebraska improves to 19-1-1 overall while the Bears' record stands at 14-6-1.
Nebraska will meet third-seed Missouri, a 2-1 winner over Iowa State in the first semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. (CST) in a rematch of last season's title game. The Huskers captured the championship by defeating the Tigers 4-0.
"I'm pleased. Baylor is a good team, and they played with a high level of intensity, especially the first part of the second half and at the start of the game" Walker said. "They are a quality team, and a top 25-team with an excellent goalkeeper. So of course, we are happy to get seven goals."
Nebraska's depth proved to be a major factor as six different Huskers recorded goals. Sophomore Shannon Tanaka scored the first Nebraska goal from 25-yards on an assist from Isabelle Morneau.
Baylor's Alyson Miles scored the equalizer at the 10th minute. But it was all Nebraska from there.
Amy Walsh beat Baylor goalkeeper Dawn Greathouse from eight yards, which proved to be the game winner. Kori Saunders and Christine Latham provided two more goals as NU took a 4-1 halftime lead.
"We came in knowing that this was maybe going to be one of our toughest games in the tournament, so we played with a lot of intensity and a lot of enthusiam," Walsh said. "Even though we went 10-0 in the conference, we still feel like we have something to prove, and we are in the process of showing the country that we deserve one of the top four seeds in the NCAA Tournament."
Nebraska, which seeks its third tournament title in the last four seasons, has outscored its opposition, 17-2 in the first two matches of the Big 12 tournament.
Second half scoring for the Huskers included goals by Sharolta Nonen, Breanna Boyd and Latham.
The eight saves by junior goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc was a season best, while Greathouse, a second-team All-Big 12 selection, recorded four stops, but allowed all seven goals.
