Walsh Invitational Results

The Nebraska rifle team competed in the Walsh Invitational, the largest indoor rifle match in the nation, on Friday, Nov. 5. The competition, which began Oct. 31, featured 21 collegiate teams and nine junior teams. The match took place over four weekends and included both high school and collegiate competitors including the host school, Xavier University.

The Huskers, shooting on the second weekend of competition, fired a match total 6,070 out of a possible 6,400 to take ninth place overall. The University of Alaska-Fairbanks was the overall winner behind Matt Emmons' individual title in the air rifle. Emmons shot a 396 out of a possible 400.

Nebraska's Amanda Trujillo took fifth out of 191 competitors, firing a 391. Victoria Ridge, competing as an individual, fired a 384 to take 35th, while Nicole Allaire, who has led the Huskers to three straight match titles, shot a 384 to place 39th. Rounding out the scoring for the Huskers were sophomores Terim Richards, who finished 76th with a 377 and Rachel Spiry, who finished 138th with a 358. Nebraska's air rifle total of 1,510 put them in 12th place, 55 points behind Alaska-Fairbanks' winning score of 1,565.

In the smallbore competition, Nebraska was again led by Trujillo, who took ninth behind a1,169 out of a possible 1,200. Allaire shot a 1,154, Ridge a 1,134 and Spiry a 1,103 to bring the team total to 4,560 and a ninth-place finish. Robert Foth of the USOTC shot a 1,184 to take the title.
