Lincoln -- The California All-Stars led for 39 minutes and 59 seconds, but Danny Walker connected on a 3-pointer at the end of regulation and scored seven of his 19 points in overtime as Nebraska defeated the California All-Stars, 107-99, Wednesday evening at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Walker's 3-pointer from the top of the key with no time remaining capped a dramatic second-half comeback which saw the Huskers battled back from 20 points down on two occasions and from 17 down with seven minutes remaining. Leading 89-86 with five seconds left, the All-Stars had a chance to seal the win, but Mark Sanford's second free throw was missed, setting up the final Husker attempt.
Walker, a junior guard from Los Angeles, was one of six Huskers in double figures, finishing with 19 point, four rebounds and four assists in 34 minutes. Senior Larry Florence led NU with 20 points and six rebounds before fouling out late in regulation. Kimani Friend finished with 19 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks, while Steffon Bradford added 16 points and 16 boards, as NU outrebounded the All-Stars 60-40.
California All-Stars jumped out early, hitting their first 12 shots to build an early double figure lead and extended the lead to 18, at 55-37 at intermission. The All-Stars led by as much as 59-39 early in the half before Nebraska mounted its comeback
Guard Eddie Shannon led all scorers with 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while Sanford and David Higgins finished with 18 points each.
The Huskers return to action next Wednesday, Nov. 17, when they take on Ural Great-Russia at the Devaney Center, beginning at 7:20 p.m.
