Hays, Kan. -- The Nebraska women's cross country team captured their second team title of the season, winning the Tiger Invitation on Saturday, Oct. 16. The meet, hosted by Fort Hays State University, featured 12 teams and nearly 100 runners.
On their way to winning the title with 53 points, the Huskers claimed the top two spots. Junior Amie Finkner, a Kearney, Neb., native had her best finish of the season, claiming the title in 18.30. Sophomore Jenna Lucas (Rapid City, S.D.), took second in 18:41. The runner-up finish is Lucas' second this season. She also finished second in the Emporia State Invitational on October 1. Freshman Christy Linnell (Papillion, Neb.) finished 12th in 19:36, followed by junior Deb Osteen (Clayton, Calif.), who took 14th in 19:38. Rounding out the scoring for Nebraska was Steph Stewart, a sophomore from Lincoln, who finished 36th in a time of 20:33.
Competing as individuals, Nebraska placed three runners in the top 20 of the men's event. Freshman Jared Carlson (Kearney, Neb.) had his best result of the season, finishing second in 26:21. Junior Todd Tripple, a Gering, Neb., native, finished 15th in 26:51 followed by freshman Hunter Kosman (Scottsbluff, Neb.), who finished 20th in a time of 26:59. Matt Fouts of Fort Hays State, won the 8,000-meter event in a time of 26:07.
Nebraska's top seven runners from both the men's and women's teams will be competing tomorrow, Oct. 17, at the Wolverine Interregional Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. The men are scheduled to run at 10:30 a.m. followed by the women at 11:30 a.m
