Nebraska Blitzes Hawkeyes

Gainesville, Fla. -- Nebraska notched its second victory of the day with a 15-10, 15-3, 15-3 victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes in Florida's SunTrust Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday. After battling with Iowa in the first game, NU came storming back to hit .414 in game two and .310 in the third frame. With the win, it set up Nebraska's match with eighth-ranked Florida as the tournament's championship match as Florida also swept Western Michigan and Iowa Saturday.

"I thought we did some good things today," Head Coach Terry Pettit said. "Iowa was competitive in the first game because they came out and hit the tar out of the ball and served well. From here on out it's a lot of refining. We're not a great team at this point, but we're a good team. I think we are doing a lot of things right and we'll give Florida a good match tomorrow."

Nebraska had its best match of the year from the service line, recording six service aces, including two from freshman Lindsay Wischmeier and junior Jill McWilliams.

"Wischmeier came in and served lights out," Pettit said. "Right now she's our best server. We are running a lot of points in her rotation."

The Huskers hit over .300 for the third straight match and also held their third straight opponent under .100 hitting, as NU hit at a .315 clip, recording 13 total blocks to hold the Hawkeyes to .093 hitting. Junior Nancy Meendering finished the match with a game-high 13 kills on 23 attacks. She also teamed up with sophomore Jenny Kropp at the net as each had six block assists. Freshman Greichaly Cepero and Tonia Tauke finished with seven kills apiece.
