Koziol Earns Third-Team Academic All-America Honors

University of Nebraska senior gymnast Jim Koziol (Omaha, Neb.) collected his second academic honor of the week, claiming third-team GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American accolades on Wednesday.

An All-American on still rings, Koziol placed fourth on that event at the 1998 NCAA Championships and is a finalist for the Emery-Nissen Award announced Wednesday night. A senior co-captain, he has competed in every meet this season, recording a high score of 56.45 in the all-around at the West Regional, helping the Huskers advance to their first NCAA appearance since 1995. Koziol, who has a 3.67 GPA in biological sciences, was selected as Nebraska’s Male Student-Athlete of the Year on April 18 and has been accepted into medical school. Koziol and the Huskers go for their ninth national title at the NCAA Championships at the Devaney Center beginning on Thursday.
