Notes:Tanya Franck scored two goals and Kim Engesser and Kristen Gay each scored as the sixth-ranked Huskers opened the season with a 4-1 win over the DePaul Blue Demons before a crowd of 1,220 at the Abbott Sports Complex. Engesser, a junior transfer from Portland, took an indirect free kick from Jenny Benson and scored her first goal in a Husker uniform at the 2:39 mark in the first half. Less than six minutes later, Franck scored an unassisted goal at 8:29 to give the Huskers a 2-0 advantage. Franck added Nebraska's third goal, her second unassisted one of the game, scoring at 51:35. The Huskers' final goal came when Kristen Gay scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Isabelle Morneau at 68:33. DePaul avoided a shutout when Jeanette Croce beat Husker reserve goalkeeper Jackie Erdkamp at 82:02. Nebraska outshot the Blue Demons 35-1 and had an 19-1 advantage in shots on goal. DePaul goalkeeper Kelly Kaiser recorded 15 saves.
