Lincoln -- The Nebraska track and field team travels to Austin, Texas, May 17-19, where the men will compete for their fourth Big 12 Outdoor title and try to defend the 2002 crown, while the women will make a run at their second conference championship after coming three and a half points shy in 2002.

The Husker men won the 2003 Big 12 Indoor title in dramatic finish, with the winner being decided on the final leg of the 4x400-meter relay. They hope to make it a season sweep, and their chances look good with strong performances needed from Carl Myerscough, Shaun Kologinczak, Eric Eshbach, Casey Thom, Artur Wszelaki, James Bowler and many more.

The Husker women will have to put together a total team effort to make a run at defending champions Kansas State and 2003 Indoor champs Texas. NU will rely on the likes of Becky Breisch, Ineta Radevica, Ashley Selig, Christi Lehman, Shelley-Ann Brown to lead the way.

The NU men have collected 22 outdoor conference championships dating back to 1921, when they won the Missouri Valley Championships in Ames, Iowa. The most recent came last season when they won with 143 points, outdistancing second-place Texas by 47.5 points.

The Texas Longhorns play host to the 2003 Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The event begins Saturday at 3 p.m. with the women
