Tyler Wells joined the Nebraska communications staff in September 2018. He also served as a volunteer intern in communications from January 2015 until December 2015. From November 2015 until March 2016, he was a statistician for the Nebraska basketball teams and volunteered at various home events.
In his current role, Wells is the primary contact for cross country and outdoor track and field. He also is the secondary contact for indoor track and field, while remaining the summer sport contact for bowling and wrestling. He was the Nebraska media contact for USA Wrestling’s 2019 Final X: Lincoln.
In 2016, Wells moved to Sioux City, Iowa, to pursue a master’s degree at Briar Cliff University and was the first-ever graduate assistant in the BCU sports information department. As a graduate assistant, Wells served as the assistant sports information director and oversaw all 18 varsity sports at the Cliff.
Prior to Briar Cliff, Wells was an undergraduate at Wayne State College and was a student-assistant in the Wildcats’ sports information department.
Wells has been a freelance statistician and time out coordinator for the Big Ten Network, ESPN and Fox Sports since 2015. He was also one of the primary statisticians for the 2018 and 2019 NAIA Division II Women’s Volleyball National Championship tournaments and the 2017-18 and 2018-19 NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship tournaments. While at Nebraska as a volunteer assistant, he was a part of the support staff at the 2015 NCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship tournament.
A native of Norfolk, Neb., Wells earned his associate's degree in PC support and networking from Northeast Community College in 2012, his bachelor’s degree in sport management from Wayne State College in 2015 and his master’s degree in sports management from Briar Cliff University in 2018.
