Travis Shufelt spent one year as Nebraska's club coach during the 2005-06 season, after completing his eligibility. Shufelt helped the Huskers to a 12-5 dual mark in 2005-06, and placed third at the Big 12 Championships before earned 16th at the NCAA Championships.
As a competitior, Shufelt was an All-American his junior season at 149 pounds after a seventh-place finish in the 2004 NCAA Championships, despite suffering an injury to his ribs in the first round. That capped a 29-6 season that saw Shufelt win 13 matches by fall. He started his junior season hot by winning his first 22 matches.
Shufelt was a four-year NCAA qualifier. As a freshman, Shufelt entered the Big 12 Championships seeded fifth but earned a pair of upset victories in wrestle-backs to punch his ticket to nationals.
Shufelt was a second-team academic All-Big 12 honoree in 2004 and graduated from NU with a degree in community health education in the summer of 2005.
