Tom Lemke joined the Nebraska Athletic Department in January 2019 as an Assistant Director of Life Skills and served as a Life Skills counselor for the baseball, wrestling, football, men's gymnastics, and women’s gymnastics programs until August 2024. In June 2020, he began overseeing the Post-Eligibility Opportunities Program which provides student-athletes the opportunity to receive a $7,500 postgraduate scholarship to use for an internship, study abroad experience, or graduate school. Lemke collaborated with campus partners in UNL Career Services, Graduate Studies, and Education Abroad to coordinate PEO experiences for student-athletes. He also led an annual PEO Workshop to educate student-athletes about the PEO program and met individually with student-athletes to help determine the best way to use program funding.
Lemke was also the staff adviser for the Inner Circle student-athlete leadership group and directed events such as the Student-Athlete Career Fair, Networking Night, Career Tours, Financial Forum, Moving Off Campus, Life After Sport, and assisted with all major life skills outreach and events. Prior to assuming the responsibilities of the PEO program, his additional responsibilities included serving as the social media liaison for the life skills team.
Prior to Nebraska, Lemke served as a Leadership and Life Skills intern for the athletic department at Indiana University, where he oversaw various career development initiatives and assisted with all leadership and life skills programming. Before Indiana, he earned his master’s degree in counseling and student development from Kansas State University in 2018 and served as a graduate assistant coach for the baseball team during his time there.
A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Lemke earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska in 2013. While at Nebraska, Lemke was a student-athlete on the baseball team for three seasons as a right-handed pitcher. He received recognition as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2012. He was also a first-team academic All Big 12 selection in 2011.
