Tim Neumann coached the Nebraska wrestling team from 1985-2000, producing six top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships for the Huskers. Neumann led Nebraska to its highest finish ever at nationals with a third-place performance in 1993, and claimed conferencce crowns in 1993 and 1995. Neumann instructed 40 Huskers to All-America accolades, including four national champions and eight NCAA finalists. Neumann finished his time in Lincoln as NU's all-time winningest coach with a 199-77-6 dual record. Neumann also spent two seasons as an assistant coach under Bob Fehrs before taking over at the helm for the Huskers.
Husker wrestlers were also successful in the classroom under Neuamnn. The Huskers earned 10 NCWA Academic All-America awards from 1995-2000, including first-team honoree Ryan Tobin in 1998. Nebraska also led the Big 12 with seven wrestlers earning first-team academic all-conference honors in 1998.
During his days as a student-athlete, Neumann transferred to Nebraska from Northern Michigan. In his only season with the Huskers, he led the team to its first winning season in five years. The 1979-80 team captain was 27-5 and qualified for the NCAA Championships but did not compete because of two broken ribs.
A native of Peshtigo, Wis., Neumann graduated from Nebraska in 1980 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. Before joining the Husker staff, Neumann spent two years as head coach at Plainville (Kan.) High School. He is married to the former Kay LaBumbard of Rapid River, Mich. The Nuemanns have one daughter, Chelsea and two sons, Clint and Chase.
