Shevin Smith Jr. is in his first season as a football recruiting assistant at Nebraska in 2024 and his second season on Matt Rhule's staff. He was a graduate assistant for the 2023 season, when he worked with the defensive backs and helped the Huskers post their best rushing defense, total defense and scoring defense in the Big Ten era.
Smith came to Nebraska from Baylor, where he was both a player and student coach. Smith was a cornerback for the Bears for three seasons from 2019 to 2021, playing his first season for Rhule. Smith then transitioned into a student coaching role with the Bears.
In addition to his work at Baylor, Smith gained NFL experience as an intern with the Indianapolis Colts in the summer of 2022. During his time in Indianapolis, Smith assisted with the defensive backs.
Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship/entrepreneurial studies from Baylor in 2022.
