Sam Roth is in his second season as Nebraska’s Director of Football Rehabilitation in 2026.
Roth came to Nebraska after spending two years at the University of Houston. In his first year, he served as a Division I Sports Physical Therapy Fellow before being promoted to Associate Director of Sports Medicine/Director of Rehabilitation in 2024.
Roth served a dual role in his final year at Houston, working as an assistant athletic trainer for the football team while also overseeing post-operative rehabilitation and return to play for student-athletes across all 17 varsity sports. In his first year with the Cougars, Roth worked primarily with the football, basketball and baseball teams while assisting with post-operative rehabilitation for all student-athletes.
Prior to Houston, Roth completed a sports physical therapy residency through Memorial Hermann Rockets Sports Medicine Institute in partnership with Houston Christian University and George Ranch High School.
Roth is sports residency and fellowship trained and is a board-certified specialist in Sports Physical Therapy among other certifications. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.
A native of Hastings, Neb., he earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the University of Nebraska in 2019, where he worked primarily with the football and men’s basketball teams. He went on to earn his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2021. He is married to his wife Brianna, who is also a physical therapist.
