A veteran of the collegiate and professional ranks, Ryan Strain is in his second year as a graduate manager in the Husker program.
In his role, Strain will assist the Husker coaching staff with on-field duties, including helping with batting practice and bullpen catching while overseeing the undergraduate managers and helping with team video. He will also assist in on-campus recruiting and perform other administrative tasks, helping in the day-to-day operations of the program.
In addition to his administrative duties in the Husker program, Strain served as an assistant coach for the St. Cloud Riverbats in the Northwoods League in 2006 and will return to the league this summer. Strain served as the hitting coach and infield coach, helping St. Cloud lead the Northwoods League in hitting during the 2006 campaign.
Strain began his career playing at North Carolina State before transferring to Nevada. In three seasons with the Wolf Pack program, Strain appeared in 132 contests, hitting .286 with 43 RBIs. His best season came in 2003, when he hit .328 with a homer and 17 RBIs in 51 games. Following his collegiate career, Strain played two seasons in the minors for the San Francisco Giants and one year for the Rockford Riverhawks in the independent professional Frontier League.
The son of former Major Leaguer Joe Strain, Ryan was a three-sport standout at Cherry Creek (Colo.) High School, earning all-state honors as a senior. Strain earned his undergraduate degree in secondary education/history from Nevada in 2003 and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in educational administration.
