Rashaan Melvin, a former college and NFL cornerback, served as an assistant secondary/cornerbacks coach at Nebraska for the 2024 season.
Melvin's work with the Husker defense helped the unit rank 14th nationally in rushing defense during the regular season, 19th in total defense and 20th in scoring defense.
Melvin came to Nebraska after a long playing career. He played for Northern Illinois from 2008 to 2012, starting every game his junior and senior years. In 2013, Melvin signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent.
The Baltimore Ravens signed Melvin in 2014, where he appeared in his first career playoff game. With Melvin recording seven combined tackles, the Ravens defeated the Steelers 30–17 in the AFC Wildcard Game.
Melvin’s most recent NFL stint came with the Carolina Panthers, where he played one season under Coach Matt Rhule before announcing his retirement in July of 2022.
