Jim Steffen was a volunteer assistant coach at Nebraska for four years under Tim Neumann. The Huskers notched a mark of 55-14-1 in Steffen's four years, including 16 wrestlers earning All-America accolades. Steffen helped guide the Huskers to three top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including a third-place showing in 1993.
The 1989 North Dakota Class A Coach-of-the-Year, Steffen came to Nebraska after an eight-year stint at Devils Lake High School, where he spent the last four years as head coach.
Steffen competed at Valley City State College in North Dakota before beginning his coaching career as an assistant at Bismarck St. Mary's.
