Heather Kiefer, Ph.D., is in her first year at Nebraska as an Athletic Psychologist after joining the staff in July of 2023.
Kiefer works with several Husker programs, including men’s basketball, softball, soccer, swimming and diving, men’s gymnastics, women’s tennis and men’s and women’s golf. In her role, she provides mental health and sports psychology services to student-athletes as well as consultation and outreach services to student-athletes coaches and athletic staff. Dr. Kiefer also serves as the Olympic Sports Performance Program Coordinator.
Prior to joining Nebraska Athletics, Dr. Kiefer completed her APA-Accredited Doctoral internship at the University of Iowa. At Iowa, she provided individual psychotherapy services to students and student-athletes while specializing in sport psychology and eating disorder treatment. Dr. Kiefer received her Ph.D., in counseling psychology with a concentration in sport psychology from the University of North Texas in July of 2023.
Kiefer played collegiate softball at James Madison University, where she was a two-time NFCA All-Region selection and three-time All-Colonial Athletic Association selection.
Kiefer, who resides in Lincoln, receives her undergraduate degree in psychology from JMU in 2015 and a master’s degree in sports psychology from Florida State University in 2018.
