Former Iowa State All-American Derek Mountsier was a volunteer assistant coach at Nebraska for Tim Neumann during the 1998-99 season. Mountsier helped Nebraska accumulated a 17-6 dual record, while three Huskers claimed All-America honors that season at the NCAA Championships.
A standout wrestler for the Cyclones, Mountsier earned All-America honors in 1994 at 134 pounds, finishing eighth at the NCAA Championships, and again in 1996 at 142 pounds. The 1996 Big 12 champion at 142 pounds, Mountsier finished his career at Iowa State as the third-winningest wrestler in school history with 128 victories.
Mountsier is a 1996 graduate of Iowa State. The native of Newton, Iowa, has a wife, Vanessa.
