CJ Cavazos spent one season as Nebraska’s director of football relations in 2023. He had an extensive recruiting background and filled a variety of roles with the Huskers.
Cavazos was involved in all aspects of the recruiting process for high school prospects and transfers. He served as Nebraska’s primary contact for high school football coaches in addition to overseeing the administration of the Huskers’ walk-on program. In collaboration with Head Football Strength and Conditioning Coach Corey Campbell, Cavazos also led the organization and implementation of the program’s annual Pro Day.
Prior to Nebraska, Cavazos spent one year in the XFL as the league’s director of college and professional relations. His role focused on talent acquisition, as Cavazos coordinated showcases around the country to evaluate prospects and help build a draft pool. His duties saw him attend more than 25 Pro Day events across college campuses.
Cavazos owned and operated his own recruiting company for more than 25 years. During that time, he gained valuable insights into the recruiting process and created an extensive network of national recruiting contacts.
Cavazos earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech in 1993 and his associate’s degree from Blinn College in 1990.
