Dr. Brett Haskell, Ph.D., was the Director of Sport Psychology from 2018-2023. She also served on the Big Ten Mental Health and Wellness Cabinet, was a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC), and was on the USOPC Sport Psychology Registry.
Dr. Haskell directed a department of five performance and mental health providers and led strategic initiatives to advance the utilization of performance psychology within collegiate sport. In her role as a performance psychologist, she provided psychological services, mental skills training, teambuilding and leadership development services for the Husker Football and Volleyball programs. Haskell worked closely with each student-athlete to help them develop skills to enhance personal well-being, address mental health concerns, and optimize performance.

Her approach emphasized systemic interventions that position each person for success and wellbeing in their unique sociocultural context while being rooted in the latest neuroscience perspectives of human behavior.
Dr. Haskell came to Nebraska in September of 2014 after serving as a counseling and sport psychology postdoctoral counselor at Kansas Athletics Inc. Along with obtaining her doctoral degree with honors from Kansas in Counseling Psychology, Dr. Haskell provided counseling and performance enhancement training to Jayhawk student-athletes for four years from 2009-2012, and 2013-2014. Haskell completed her APPIC Accredited Internship in the UMKC counseling center with a focus on multicultural counseling competencies and eating disorder treatment from 2012-2013.
Dr. Haskell earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from Nebraska-Kearney in 2005 and her master's degree in sport psychology from North Carolina-Greensboro in 2008. While at UNK, she was a member of the Loper volleyball team which competed in three elite eights, culminating in a national runner-up finish her senior year.
