Bob Wager was an assistant coach at Nebraska from January to July of 2023. He came to Nebraska after a successful head coaching career in the Texas high school ranks. Wager was a high school head coach 26 seasons before coming to Lincoln. He posted a 206-100-1 career record. In addition to a stellar coaching record, Wager helped develop numerous FBS and NFL players while coaching high school football, including No. 1 NFL Draft pick Myles Garrett.

ARLINGTON MARTIN HIGH SCHOOL: Wager spent 17 seasons as the head coach at Arlington Martin High School in Arlington, Texas, from 2006 to 2022. He posted a 143-64-1 record with the Warriors. Wager led Arlington Martin to the state playoffs in each of his 17 seasons. Before Wager’s arrival, the Warriors had made the playoffs only four times in school history.

Wager helped Arlington Martin to eight 10-win seasons. The Warriors had seven undefeated district championships, including each of Wager’s final four seasons. Arlington Martin made a total of nine trips to the regional semifinals under Wager.
Regarded as one of the top high school coaches in the country, Wager coached in the Under Armour All-America Game 10 times, serving as a head coach in 2022.
KAUFMAN HIGH SCHOOL: Wager spent the 2005 season as the head coach at Kaufman High School outside Dallas, leading the Lions to a 9-2 record.
GROVETON HIGH SCHOOL: Wager spent four seasons as the head coach at Groveton High School from 2001 to 2004. He guided Groveton to a 27-19 record with two state playoff appearances.
TOLAR HIGH SCHOOL: Wager was the head coach at Tolar High School for four seasons from 1997 to 2000. He posted a 31-12 record and helped the Rattlers to three state playoff appearances, including the first playoff win in school history.
HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT CAREER: Wager’s first job in coaching was at Carter Junior High. After one year at Carter, Wager was an assistant at Sam Houston High School in Arlington for four seasons.
PLAYING CAREER (SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE)
A native of Johnstown, New York, Wager was a running back at Springfield College in Massachusetts. An injury cut his playing career short, and he immediately transitioned into a coaching role, serving as a student assistant coach.

Wager earned his degree from Springfield College. He and his wife Amy have one son, Gage, and one daughter, Mia. Gage is a freshman punter for the Huskers.
