Amos Foster

The successor to Walter C. "Bummy" Booth, Amos Foster arrived at Nebraska from the University of Cincinnati, where he enjoyed two successful seasons as a head coach after graduating from Dartmouth in 1904.

Amos Foster spent just one season as the head coach at Nebraska, leading the Cornhuskers to a 6-4 record. He had previously guided Cincinnati to a 7-1 record in his first season as a head coach in 1904, before adding a 4-3 mark in 1905.

After his lone season in Lincoln in 1906, Foster moved on to become the head football coach at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 1907 and 1908, where he enjoyed remarkable success. In 1907, his first Miami (Ohio) club posted a 6-1 record. His 1908 club was even better, rolling to a perfect 7-0 mark while outscoring the opposition 113-10. Overall, he was 13-1 at Miami (Ohio) and 30-9 (.769) in five seasons as a collegiate head coach.

His .939 career winning percentage at Miami (Ohio) ranks as the best in school history, ahead of College Football Hall of Fame coaches George Little, Ara Parseghian, Sid Gillman, Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler.

Foster lettered as a football player for Dartmouth in both 1902 and 1903 under Head Coach Fred Folsom. In 1903, Foster helped the Big Green to the school's first-ever win over Harvard, as Dartmouth finished with a 9-1 record.

Along with being a star on the gridiron, he actually began his coaching career with the Dartmouth men's basketball team, guiding the club to a 7-9 record in 1902-03. Foster was a three-year letterwinner for the Big Green on the hardwood, lettering in 1901, 1902 and 1903. In 1902-03, he served as the team captain and head coach. He graduated from Dartmouth in 1904.

After his successful career as a coach, Foster practiced law in Ohio.
