2002: Outlook
Freshman Olivia Waldowski (pronounced Wall-DOW-skee), an experienced middle blocker who played for a successful club team, could compete for a spot in the starting lineup, NU Coach John Cook said. Waldowski was ranked as the No. 16 prep player in the nation by Volleyball Magazine. Her greatest asset, Cook said, is her quickness.

High School
Waldowski was ranked 16th on the Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 prep list and was a Los Angeles Times First-Team All-Southern California selection and an Orange County Register First-Team All-County pick. As a senior captain in 2001 for Coach Mark Mednick, she produced 522 kills on a .358 hitting percentage with 128 blocks and 307 digs en route to leading Irvine High School to the California Interscholastic Federation Championship for the first time since 1988.

Waldowski earned Sea View League MVP honors in 2000 and 2001 and CIF Division II MVP honors in 2001. Waldowski, who was named the Irvine World News 2001-02 Athlete of the Year, also competed for the Laguna Beach Asics Volleyball Club team that won the Southern California Volleyball Association Championship in 2002.

An academic honor athlete at Irvine High, Waldowski posted a 3.75 GPA and earned a spot on the honor roll every semester. Waldowski was active in several extracurricular activities, serving on the leadership staff of the Irvine Christian Club and as an associate concert mistress in the Irvine Symphony Orchestra.

Waldowski, whose extended family lives in South Dakota, chose the Huskers over Pepperdine, Arizona, Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Colorado.
