Brooke Bartek was NU’s top backup at all three outside hitter positions in 2006, appearing in nine matches as a true freshman • Had two kills on two swings and a service ace against No. 20 Louisville on Sept. 8 • Picked up a kill on match point against Colorado on Oct. 14
High School
Bartek was one of the nation’s top high school players at Lincoln Northeast • Rated the No. 13 player nationally in the 2006 recruiting class by Prepvolleyball.com and a Volleyball Magazine Fab 50 Recruit • Started all four years at Lincoln Northeast, setting a school record with 337 blocks and ranking second all-time with 1,190 kills for Coach Michelle Leising • Named the 2005 Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year after totaling 406 kills on .359 hitting with 74 blocks, 33 aces and 290 digs • Led LNE to a 19-11 record and a district finals appearance in 2005 • Captained the Lincoln Journal Star’s Super-State team in 2005 and garnered first-team all-state accolades from the Journal Star and the Omaha World-Herald in 2004 and 2005 • Led Northeast to a state tourney appearance in 2004, totaling 411 kills, 93 blocks and 257 digs • Played club volleyball for the Nebraska Juniors squad that finished third at the 2005 Junior Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah • Trained with the A2 Junior National Team in 2005 • Earned All-America honors at the 2004 Junior Olympics in the 17-and-under category • Also ran track and played basketball at Lincoln Northeast, helping the school to an undefeated record and a Class A state basketball title in 2004-05 • Named to the honor roll every semester at Lincoln Northeast and graduated in the top five percent of her class • Comes from an athletic background, as her father (Steve) was an All-American basketball player at Doane College, while her mother (JoAnne) played college volleyball and track, earning All-America honors in the high jump at Midland Lutheran • Her grandfather (Bertyl Gissler) played football at NU in 1943.
