Shannon Garlie enters her first season as a graduate assistant with the Nebraska swimming and diving program in 2019-20.
Garlie was a four-year letterwinner as a member of the Kansas swimming and diving team from 2009 to 2012, placing in the top eight at the Big 12 Championships in the 1,650 freestyle.
Garlie also competed in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events for the Jayhawks during her career and was a member of the school-record breaking 800-yard freestyle relay team as a freshman.
She was a second-team All-Big 12 selection in the pool and competed in the Big 12 finals on multiple occasions. She was also an academic All-Big 12 choice.
Garlie earned her bachelor’s degree as a communication studies major with a minor in leadership studies from Kansas in December of 2012.
Garlie went to Kansas after being named the Northern Colorado Swimmer of the Year as a senior at Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins in 2008. She was a two-time Colorado Class 4A state champion in the 500 free.
She was born in Kwajalein, Marshall Islands, and her mother, Glee, was her high school swim coach.
