2020-21 (Outlook)
Amanda Mathiasen returns for her second season to add depth in Nebraska’s sprint freestyle corps. The sophomore from Willmar, Minn., swam to career bests in both the 50 and 100 freestyles as a freshman last season and hopes to continue to shave time off her races to contribute for the Huskers in the relay events.
2019-20 (Freshman)
Mathiasen joined the Huskers as a walk-on in 2019-20 and saw action in the water during the fall portion of the season. In Nebraska’s home-opening dual win over Iowa State (Oct. 19), Mathiasen swam to a career-best 24.81 in the 50-yard freestyle. Just over a month later at the Mizzou Invite (Nov. 22), Mathiasen added a career-best 55.50 in the prelims of the 100 free. She also competed in the 50 free (25.17) and the 100 backstroke (1:09.84) at Mizzou. In the classroom, Mathiasen earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall semester.
Previous
Mathiasen came to Nebraska after qualifying for the Minnesota high school state swimming championships four consecutive years. She was a four-time All-Central Lakes Conference performer and a five-time honorable-mention all-conference choice while competing primarily in the sprint freestyle events for the Cardinals. Her top times came in the 50 free (24.55) and 100 free (54.60). Mathiasen was also an excellent performer in the classroom, capturing Academic All-State honors.
Personal
The daughter of Bob and Linda Mathiasen, Amanda was born Oct. 21, 2000, in St. Cloud, Minn. She has one younger sister, Abigail. Amanda is majoring in mechanical engineering at Nebraska. She earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2019. She chose Nebraska over Colorado, Colorado State, Purdue and Gustavus Adolphus.
