2020-21 (Outlook)
Claire Sorrell hopes to work her way into contributing for the Huskers in 2020-21. Sorrell is one of several walk-ons in Nebraska’s deep and talented junior class.
2019-20 (Sophomore)
Sorrell swam exhibition 50 and 100 freestyles in Nebraska’s dual win over Iowa State at the Devaney Natatorium early in the season. She also represented Nebraska in the 50 and 100 free events and the 100 backstroke at the Mizzou Invite. She clocked a career-best 28.50 in the 50 free 1:01.99 in the 100 free in Columbia. In the classroom, she earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll during the fall semester.
2018-19 (Freshman)
Sorrell was one of nine walk-ons to join the Huskers in 2018-19 and competed against Northern Iowa and Kansas. Against Kansas, Sorrell set a then-career best in the 50 free (28.52). A solid student, Sorrell earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2018.
Previous
In 2018, Sorrell helped Kearney High School climb to a top-20 team finish at the state meet. She was a member of the Bearcats’ 200-yard freestyle relay team at the state championships. Sorrell was a sprint freestyler for Kearney and earned several academic awards, including NCPA Academic All-State honors as a senior. She was also a member of the National Honor Society. Sorrell also played basketball for the Bearcats during her high school career.
Personal
The daughter of Brooke Kohnen and Tom Sorrell, Claire was born Aug. 29, 1999, in Kearney, Neb. Claire has one sister, Lauren. Claire is majoring in chemistry and earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall semesters of 2018 and 2019.
