2020-21 (Outlook)
Alejandra Vasquez hopes to contribute in Nebraska’s relay corps in her third season with the Huskers in 2020-21. The freestyler from Bogota, Colombia adds depth in a talented junior class for the Big Red.
2019-20 (Sophomore)
Vasquez set career bests in the 50 (27.69) and 100 freestyles (1:00.59) as a sophomore. Her 50 free best came in the prelims at the Mizzou Invite (Nov. 20), after she posted her career best in the 100 free in an exhibition swim during Nebraska’s dual win over Iowa State. She also competed in the 100 free and 200 free at the Mizzou Invite. A solid student, Vasquez earned a spot on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall of 2019.
2018-19 (Freshman)
Vasquez was one of nine walk-ons to join the Huskers in 2018-19. She set four career bests between individual and relay events, including the 50 free (27.78) and the 100 free (1:00.87). Vasquez earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters. She was also a member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
Previous
Vasquez competed for Colegio Fontan while also participating in tennis, golf and horse riding. Vasquez and Club Kronos qualified for Colombian Nationals four times under Coach Felipe Santos. Vasquez represented Bogota in 2015 and 2016 during the Colombian State Nationals.
Personal
The daughter of Claudia Gutierrez and German Vasquez, Alejandra was born June 8, 1999, in Bogota, Colombia. She has one brother, Sebastian. Alejandra is majoring in sociology and political science. Vasquez is a four-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. She was also a member of the 2019 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
