Marcus Karner Season 2004-05

Outlook: Marcus Karner signed with the Huskers during the spring season last year and made an impact in the fall campaign, especially on the doubles court. Karner will provide depth for the Huskers in the singles lineup, as he is capable of playing a number of positions. Coach McDermott said Karner can push for significant playing time because of his mental focus and patience.

In the Fall (2004): Karner recorded just a 4-7 singles mark while adjusting to the collegiate game. He was 1-2 in dual matches, including winning his only contest at the No. 2 slot. In doubles play, Karner went 3-2 with all three wins coming in dual matches. He was 3-0 when teaming with James Clow, all at the No. 3 position.

High School: Karner was one of the top junior tennis players in Sweden. In 2001, he won the Swedish junior doubles national title and was a doubles quarterfinalist in the B18 2003 Vasteras Tournament. Karner has ranked among the top 10 juniors in Sweden for several years, ranking as high as No. 5 nationally. Karner, who was previously a member of the Swedish Junior National Team, was also a top student who ranked second in his graduating class.

Personal: Marcus is the son of Ulrika and Manfred Karner. He was born July 13, 1985, and has two sisters, Mikaela and Gabriella. Marcus is majoring in finance at Nebraska.
