Outlook: Although freshman Herbert Kiennast hails from Vienna, Austria, NU Coach Kerry McDermott noticed the young tennis player at the Nebraska state tournament. Kiennast competed for Columbus High School last season and lived in the city as an exchange student. McDermott noticed Kiennast enthusiasm right away and asked him to walk on to the Husker squad. Kiennast may push for a spot in the NU singles lineup in 2000, McDermott said.
Fall 1999: Kiennast produced a 1-1 mark playing doubles with Todd Nicholl and an 0-3 record in singles.
Other: The son of Lusaper and Herbert Kiennast, the younger Herbert competed for Gymnasium High School in Germany before arriving at Columbus (Neb.) High School on an exchange program for his senior season. Kiennast has a 22-year old sister, Angela. He majors in business management at NU.
