2016 (Senior)
Ethan Lottman walked away from the Nebraska men’s gymnastics program as one of the most decorated gymnast in Chuck Chmelka's tenure as head coach. A returning All-American in competition and in the classroom, senior Ethan Lottman led the team both inside and outside the gym. A 2016 Big-Ten Gymnast to Watch, Lottman competed in every meet for the Huskers and never ranked lower than No. 9 in the national pommel horse individual rankings. At one point in the season, Lottman ranked No. 2 nationally on pommel horse.
Lottman was a key factor in the Huskers success during the 2016 season, helping NU break nine school records as a team. In the home opener against Air Force, Lottman shattered the school record on pommel horse, posting a 15.55, earning the event title. Additionally, he helped the team break the school record for total score, pommel horse score and high bar score.
Against the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners, Lottman helped the team post the second-best score in school history at the time (428.700). Against Iowa and Penn State, Lottman took home the pommel horse title with a score of 15.45, bringing his career total to four. At the Arnold Classic on March 5, Lottman again proved his All-American status, leading the Huskers on pommel horse with a 15.25.
On senior day, Lottman took home his fifth pommel horse title and led the Huskers to their third-highest score in school history.
Lottman’s success extended much farther than the gym walls though. He was a Big-Ten Distinguished scholar in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and was a three-time first-team CGA All-America Scholar-Athlete. He earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll each of his eight semesters at the university.
Additionally, he was known for his leadership and community service. Lottman traveled to Guatemala with the Life Skills program in May 2015 to help others in another country. In 2016, he was awarded the prestigious Nebraska Heart & Soul Award, the Nebraska Outstanding Scholar Award and earned a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
Lottman was been recognized nationally for his success. He was a 2016 Nissen-Emery Award Finalist, becoming Nebraska’s first finalist since Kyle Shanahan in 2010 and 21st finalist in program history.
“I am incredibly honored to be a Nissen-Emery Award finalist,” Lottman said. “The fact that I am being put into the same category as so many amazing athletes is mind-blowing. I’ve really looked up to past finalists and winners for so many years. Now I’m being compared to them and we are finalists for the same award. It has always been my goal to be on that level and now that goal is a reality.”
Lottman capped off his career as a Husker at the 2016 NCAA Championships where he took home his second All-America award after placing third on pommel horse and helping the team to its best finish since 1999 (seventh).
2015 (Junior)
Lottman skyrocketed in his junior campaign with the Huskers as a key member of the pommel horse lineup. In all, Lottman competed in every regular-season meet and into the postseason, scoring above a 15.0 three times over the course of the year. The Omaha, Neb., native also added some much-needed depth on floor and high bar in 2015.
At the 2015 NCAA Championships in Norman, Okla., Lottman scored big in the team qualifier competition, posting a 15.10 on pommel horse to advance to the event semifinals April 10. Lottman delivered a seamless performance to garner a 14.85 for seventh place, officially earning a berth into the event finals for the first time in his Husker career. Lottman finished fifth overall in the event finals competition on pommel horse with a score of 14.45. His finish earned him his first career All-America honor, becoming the first Husker All-American on an individual event since 2013.
In addition to earning All-America honors in competition, Lottman also claimed second-team CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades in 2015.

Lottman was a star in the classroom, claiming a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar award, while being named academic All-Big Ten. He also earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters of 2013-14. He was also an inaugural member of the 2014 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
2013 (Freshman)
