Honors and Awards
• Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll (Spring: 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009; Fall: 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009)
2010: Although senior Bo Benak has not competed for Nebraska in a regular-season meet, he captured a first-place finish at the 2009 International Sports and Cultural Festival in Fort Worth, Texas, in the off-season. Coach Chuck Chmelka looks for Benak to make a possible appearance in the lineup this season.
2009: Benak continued to train with the Huskers during the 2009 season, but sat out the year with an injury. He earned spots on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in the fall of 2008 and spring of 2009.
2008: Benak did not compete for the Huskers during his junior season. However, Benak remained a strong force in the classroom, garnering Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll status both semesters.
2007: While Benak did not compete during his sophomore season, he provided assistance to the Huskers in both practice and in competitions. Benak also continued his academic excellence, earning spots on both the fall and spring Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
2006: Benak did not compete during his freshman year at Nebraska. However, he continued to work hard in the classroom, earning a selection to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in the spring.
Prior: A product of the Sokol South Omaha Gymnastics club, Benak earned several honors before coming to Nebraska. He was a level 3 Nebraska state champion and in 2005, finished sixth at the level 10 state competition.
Personal: Bo Benak was born on Nov. 30, 1986, to Bud and Sandy Benak and has one older brother, Buddy. In addition to his athletic talents, Bo is an avid musician and plays five instruments including the clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn and drums. Bo is an industrial technology education major at Nebraska and has made the University of Nebraska Dean's List three times in the past three semesters.
