**Career-High in Bold

Outlook

: Granted an extra year of eligibility, senior Jeff Kelly returns as one of two seniors on the Huskers? roster. A co-captain, Kelly will specialize on the still rings and could make the lineup on both the vault and floor exercise. In his final season, look for Kelly to improve on his career-best mark of 9.3 on the still rings, recorded against Minnesota in 2000. Kelly competed in every meet last year on the still rings and should return as one of Nebraska?s top competitors in 2003.

2002

: As a junior, Kelly competed solely on the still rings, earning a season-high mark of 8.875 at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation team competition. Kelly made the trip with seven other Huskers to Norman, Okla., to compete at the NCAA Championships, placing 42nd in the qualifying round of the still rings with a mark of 7.90, but failing to advance to the finals.

2001

: Kelly concentrated on the still rings in 2001, competing in every meet for the Huskers. He qualified for the NCAA Championships on the rings and posted an 8.4 in the event preliminaries, failing to advance to the event finals. Kelly scored an 8.25 at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Berkeley, Calif. He turned in his highest score of the season against Minnesota with an 8.5.

2000

: With injuries to top still rings performers Grant Clinton and Jason Hardabura, the Huskers relied on Kelly to provide more than just depth. Kelly competed in all of Nebraska?s meets on still rings and competed on vault four times. He shattered his previous rings career high (8.6) at Minnesota with his score of 9.3. The score placed him third, the first time in his collegiate career that Kelly placed in the top three individually.

1999

: Kelly provided the Huskers with depth on still rings. He competed in the event against Minnesota, scoring an 8.60, although a back injury set him out for the remainder of the 1999 season.

Prior

: Kelly competed for Head Coach Gary Jeurink at Grand Island Gymnastics Club. He finished second in the state in the all-around as a senior, helping Grand Island to a runner-up finish at the state meet and a third-place finish at nationals. Kelly also placed eighth on still rings at the 1998 high school nationals.

Personal

: The son of Terry and Karen Kelly, Jeff has two sisters, Dana, 27 and Kim, 20, and an older brother, Jake, 26. Jeff is a 1998 graduate of Grand Island High School. He is majoring in economics. He was born on Oct. 4, 1979, in Grand Island, Neb.

Notes

: Jeff Kelly is Nebraska?s first male gymnast to hail from Grand Island, Neb. Kelly has competed at the NCAA Championships in each of the last two seasons on the still rings.
