Redshirt Junior (2025-26)
Evan McDermott put up solid scores in his home state to open his fourth season as a Husker by closing with a 213 (-3) at the Island Resort Invitational in Bark River, Mich. (Aug. 31-Sept. 1). McDermott began the season with a 69 (-3) on the 7,375-yard layout at Sage Run Golf Club, before adding a final-round 70 (-2) to tie for 35th in an 84-player field. He was the No. 4 finisher in Nebraska's five-player lineup, helping the Huskers to a sixth-place finish among 12 teams at the tournament.

He battled his way to a three-round total of 231 (+18) to finish 76th at the Gopher Invitational (Sept. 7-8). McDermott managed rounds of 76, 80 and 75 on a par-71, 7,464-yard layout at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Indepenced, Minn.

McDermott did not travel with Nebraska's lineup to the Bearcat Invitational, but did compete in the Bluejay Invitational in Omaha on the same dates (Sept. 15-16). He played three strong rounds with scores of 70, 70 and 71 to finish in a tie for fifth with a career-best 211 (-5) on the par-72, 7,079-yard layout at Shadow Ridge Country Club.

McDermott improved his season stroke average to 72.78 over nine rounds in 2025-26.

Redshirt Sophomore (2024-25)
McDermott was a consistent contributor to the Nebraska lineup in 2024-25. He closed with a 73.44 stroke average over 32 rounds, which ranked as the second-best average by a sophomore in school history. McDermott and Hamish Murray were the only Huskers to compete in all 32 rounds for NU on the year. 

McDermott earned the No. 1 spot in the lineup at the season-opening Gopher Invitational (Sept. 8-9), finishing at 223 (+10) to tie for 38th in an 80-player field, while helping NU finish third.

He fired a career-best 211 (-2) to tie for 11th at Nebraska’s Git-R-Done Invitational (Sept. 23-24). McDermott tied a career best with a 67 (-4) in the second round on the par-71, 7,003-yard layout at Firethorn, before closing with a 70 (-1).

At the Badger Invite (Sept. 29-Oct. 1), he tied for 36th in a 90-player field with a 222 (+6) on a par-72, 7,286-yard layout at the University Ridge Golf Course, including a second-round 71 (-1).

He tied for 26th with a 222 (+12) at the Qubein Cup (Oct. 14-15), including a second-round 71 (+1) at the Sedgefield CC in Greensboro, N.C. to help NU to a third-place finish.

McDermott closed the fall at the Steelwood Collegiate (Oct. 26-27), settling for a 233 (+17), despite an even-par 72 in the second round.

He opened the spring by tying for 15th with a 214 (-2) at the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate in Puerto Rico (Feb. 9-11), including back-to-back rounds of 70 (-2). He was NU’s No. 3 finisher at The Johnnie-O at Sea Island (March 17-18), managing a 73 (+3) before strong winds halted play. He closed with an even-par 70.

McDermott followed with a tie for 49th with a 222 (+6) at the Bell Bank “Pay It Forward” Collegiate in Arizona (March 24-25), including an even-par opening-round 72. He helped the Huskers to a third-place team finish.

McDermott tied for 22nd at 216 (+6) to help NU to another third-place finish at the Tiger Intercollegiate (April 7-8) with rounds of 72, 74 and even-par 70 at The Club at Old Hawthorne.

He notched his fourth top-25 finish with a tie for 17th at 223 (+10) to help the Huskers to a season-best runner-up finish at the Robert Kepler Invite (April 18-19) in Ohio.

McDermott tied for 50th at the Big Ten Championship (April 25-27). He closed with a 221 (+11) that included an even-par 70 in the opening round at the Baltimore Country Club.

Redshirt (2023-24)
McDermott redshirted in 2023-24. He finished third behind champion Reed Malleck and runner-up Hamish Murray at the 2024 Nebraska Amateur Championship in July.

Freshman (2022-23)
McDermott posted a 75.45 stroke average over 20 rounds. He capped the fall with a season-best 216 (67-74-75) that included a career-best 67 (-5) at the White Sands Invitational in the Bahamas (Oct. 28-30).

He tied for 32nd as NU’s No. 3 finisher with a tie for 41st at the Purdue Invitational with a 228 (74-74-80), Oct. 10-11.

McDermott opened as NU’s top finisher in a tie for sixth at 148 (72-76) as an individual at the rain-shortened Badger Invitational (Sept. 11-13).

He opened the spring by going 1-2 at the Big Ten Match Play, before carding a 232 (76-75-81) as NU’s No. 2 finisher at The Prestige  (Feb. 20-22). He earned his final lineup spot at the Desert Mountain Collegiate in Scottsdale (March 4-5), where he was Nebraska’s No. 4 finisher at 234.

He competed as an individual at the Stampede at the Creek in Elkhorn (April 11-12), where he finished 13th with a 220 that included back-to-back 70s (-2) in the first and second rounds.

He also played as an individual at the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate (April 28), tying for 45th with a 231 (78-77-76).

Before Nebraska
The 2022 Michigan High School Division 2 runner-up, McDermott also tied for third at the Division 2 State Championships in 2021, while helping Spring Lake to a top-10 team finish. His performance included a second-round 68. He fired the best round of his prep career with a 64 at Terra Verde.

McDermott took medalist honors at the 2022 Michigan Lower Peninsula Division 2 Regional tournament at Lincoln Hills in Ludington after firing a 69, leading Spring Lake to the regional team title. He ranked No. 1 in the state when factoring in nine-hole qualifying rounds and No. 3 in 18-hole qualifying as a senior.

In August of 2021, McDermott competed at the Golfweek Junior Tour event at Notre Dame, taking the top spot in a 51-golfer field at the 36-hole tournament. His performance featured six birdies and an eagle. He added a top-10 finish on the Golfweek Junior Tour at Kettering, Ohio in October, carding back-to-back rounds of 73.

Personal
The son of Marty and Rachel McDermott, Evan is a mechanical engineering major. He earned Academic All-Big Ten accolades in 2024 and 2025. He is a five-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. He also earned spots on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team in 2024 and 2025. He served on the Nebraska Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2024-25. McDermott brought strong ties with him to Nebraska. His uncle, Greg, is the head men’s basketball coach at Creighton, while Evan’s cousin, Doug, was a three-time All-American at Creighton and is in the NBA.
