Senior (2016-17)
Michael Colgate put together one of the best individual seasons in Nebraska history by posting a 72.91 stroke average over 32 rounds for the Huskers as a senior in 2016-17. It marked the seventh-best season stroke average in school history for the Huskers. His two-year career stroke average of 73.59 also tied for in Husker history. Colgate captured an individual title at the rain-shortened Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas, March 10-11, with rounds of 66 and 69 to finish at 135 over 36 holes. His 66 matched his career best. He finished with nine rounds better than par during the season and claimed an individual bid to the NCAA Washington Regional - Nebraska's first individual NCAA appearance since 2012. Colgate opened the season with a tie for third at the Badger Invitational, when he fired a career-best-tying three-round total of 210, which included rounds of 69 and 68 to close the tournament. He followed with a tie for ninth at the Ram Masters Invitational the next week, when he carded a two-under-par 68 in the second round. Colgate produced his third top-10 finish of the fall with a tie for eighth at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic in Pearland, Texas, Oct. 10-11. He opened the tournament with a three-under 69 before closing with back-to-back rounds of 73 to finish at one-under 215. He added a tie for 13th (218) to close the fall at the East Bay Deli Classic at Kiawah. 

The senior from Sarasota opened the spring for the Huskers at the Big Ten Match Play Championship in Palm Coast, Fla., by going 2-1 for the Big Red in matches against Minnesota (W), Ohio State (L) and Indiana (W). After a solid showing at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate that included a second-round 68, Colgate won the Border Olympics. He was NU's No. 2 finisher at the Hawkeye Invitational before notching his fifth top-10 individual finish of the season with a tie for sixth (221) at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus, Ohio, April 22-23. Colgate was also Nebraska's No. 2 finisher at the Big Ten Championships with a tie for 40th (222), before closing his collegiate career with a tie for 65th at the NCAA Washington Regional at the Aldarra Golf Club in Sammamish. He managed a 54-hole score of 234 in Washington.

Off the course, Colgate earned academic All-Big Ten honors before claiming his bachelor's degree as an accounting major in May of 2017.

Junior (2015-16)
Colgate led the Huskers with a 74.29 stroke average and four top-20 finishes as one of three Huskers to play every tournament in 2015-16. Three of his top-20 results came in the first four events, with his best showing a seventh-place finish at the season-opening Ballyneal Challenge. He tied for 10th at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate and added a 12th-place showing at the Bruce Fossum Memorial. 

In the spring, Colgate went 2-1-1 at the Big Ten Match Play. His best finish was a tie for 18th at the Desert Shootout, which included a final-round 66. Colgate's 54-hole score for the event was 6-under-par 210. In all, Colgate led the Huskers in five of 11 stroke-play tournaments.

Before Nebraska
Colgate came to Lincoln from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. At UNK, Colgate produced a 75.06 stroke average in 18 rounds as a freshman in 2012-13, before compiling a 74.52 stroke average in 25 rounds as a sophomore in 2013-14. He captured the NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Regional title with a score of 212, highlighted by a second-round 69. Colgate tied for 19th at the 2014 NCAA Division II Championships after shooting 222.

In June 2015, Colgate defeated Lance Lawson 5 & 4 for the Nebraska Match Play Championship. He also tied for first at the Michelob Amateur with scores of 72 and 69. He was the runner-up at the 2015 U.S. Amateur Qualifier in Beatrice, Neb., after firing 71 and 72.

He competed at the 2012 U.S. Amateur and 2011 U.S. Junior Amateur, while tying for 17th at a 2012 U.S. Open Local Qualifier. He tied for eighth at the 2012 Sarasota City Championship.

Colgate graduated from Sarasota High School in 2012. The four-time letterwinner earned honorable-mention all-district accolades as a junior. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.

Personal
Mike is the son of Ginger and Bill, husband of Stella, and has four siblings: Sami, Millie, Cole, and Lilly. Michael was born on May 11, 1994, and majored in accounting. He earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2017. He claimed academic All-Big Ten accolades in 2017, and is a two-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.
