Smith joined the golf team for the second half of the season and was an excellent contributor throughout the season. He competed in six of the seven spring tournaments. He finished in a tie for seventh at the Texas-Pan American. Smith tied for 44th-place in the Stevinson Ranch Invitational with a three-round score of 234.
Before Nebraska
Smith was named Young County Player of the Year in 1999 and Hertsfordshire Boys Champion for 1999. He was the Club Champion in 1999 and the Junior Club Champion in 1998 and 1999.
Personal
Smith is the only European player on the team. He is the son of Joyce and Reginald Leonard Smith. Marty has two sisters, Roxanne Smith (20) and Kim Fowler (38), and one brother, Rich Smith (37). He is majoring in psychology. He was born on March 17, 1981.
