Freshman (1998-99)
Dean Beste, a second semester addition, looks to battle teammates Ryan Nietfeldt and Seth Porter for playing time in the spring. A native of Gold Coast, Australia, Beste is the third Australian on NU's 1999 spring roster. A winner of numerous Australian tournaments, Beste is a welcome addition to a squad that featured three different lineups last fall.
Before Nebraska
In high school, Beste earned many accolades, including a Regional Schoolboys Championship, two Gold Coast District Junior Championships and a seventh-place finish at the Schoolboys State Championships. In addition, Beste was a member of the 1997 and 1998 State Squad, 1996 State Colts Team (ages 18-23) and 1995 State Junior Team. He was a runner up at both the Club Championships in 1996 and 1998 and at the 1995 Australian Junior Championships. Beste also won three open amateur championships from 1995 to 1997 and was the Club Matchplay Champion in 1994. Beste has fired a career-best round of 65 in club competition and has shot a 68 numerous times in tournaments during high school.

A marketing major, Dean is the son of Hans and Judy Beste.
